What Does Dental Bonding Fix?
Many people have small issues with the aesthetics of their mouths and want to fix these issues—a chipped tooth is nothing to sniff at, as it can have more effects than just cosmetic. Dental bonding is a great way to get the smile you want and prevent later dental issues without receiving a more in-depth treatment.
With dental bonding, you’ll see results after one quick, in-patient visit to Torrey Dental. You’ll be able to leave the appointment with an improved smile you’re happy to show off.

The Dental Bonding Process
Dental bonding is an extremely common cosmetic procedure. It’s minimally invasive, and in many cases, you won’t even need any anesthesia, making it a procedure that’ll easily fit into your busy schedule.
During your visit for dental bonding, the steps will go like this:
- Preparing the tooth: Dr. Torrey will pick a shade of composite resin material to match the rest of your teeth. Then, he will make sure the tooth is rough enough to hold the bonding material by using drill-like, painless instruments.
- Placing the bonding material: Next, the composite resin is applied using a syringe. Dr. Torrey will then use dental tools to smooth and shape the resin.
- Curing the tooth: During this stage, a curing light hardens and bonds the resin to your tooth.
- Polishing the tooth: Finally, Dr. Torrey will polish the tooth to ensure it looks natural.
The treatment only takes around 30 to 60 minutes to complete, and you can leave the office without any recovery time. If you do need anesthesia for the procedure, you can take over-the-counter pain medications to soothe any slight discomfort afterward.

This young female patient had not-so-ideal home care while in orthodontics and presented to me with significant decay and demineralized anterior teeth. I did direct bonding of her front 6 teeth in a little over an hour.
Considerations
The bonding procedure can often be completed in a single office visit and can improve the appearance of a tooth significantly.
However, since the plastic resin used is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, it is more likely to stain, chip, or break than natural teeth.
Bonding typically lasts three to five years before needing to be repaired.
