Local and systemic antibiotics
Periodontal disease is a serious condition that if left untreated will lead to tooth loss and contribute to other systemic disease processes. We employ the use of oral antibiotics sparingly but they do have their place in the treatment of moderate to advanced gum disease. Often used in combination they are highly effective at reducing the bacterial and fungal load of the mouth. We also utilize more localized antibiotics (minoclyline) if your condition does not warrant oral antibiotics. These antibiotics are placed directly in problematic areas of the gums and are extremely effective with little to no side effects.
